Situated around a 40-minute drive away from the Papagayo Luxury luxury vacation rental properties, the Diamante EcoPark is a great place for growing families that are planning their next adventures in Guanacaste. We chatted to Bari, one of our dedicated concierges, to see why it’s one of the places she recommends for families visiting the area.
Why visit Diamante EcoPark?
It’s an oceanfront adventure park that’s packed with relevant activities for growing families. It’s well-known in the area for its world-class animal sanctuary and key focus on conservation, including one of the most recognized Wildlife Education Centers in Costa Rica. But it doesn’t stop there. The park also offers a range of action-packed activities to help you fully experience the beauty of the local area – the most famous being the superman zip line pass.
What can you see at the animal sanctuary?
The Diamante EcoPark has long been home to a variety of Costa Rican animals in need, and each species is cared for by a large team of dedicated and qualified conservation professionals. Visitors can expect to see a wide variety of animals in the sanctuary, from sloths and monkeys to larger animals such as jaguars and pumas. Enjoy spotting a range of colorful and exotic butterflies in the world-class observatory, or catch a glimpse of toucans, small birds, frogs and reptiles up close.
The team is incredibly passionate about sharing their knowledge with those who visit the park, with over a dozen licensed biologists on hand to answer any questions you may have. It’s just one of the reasons this is a great place to take your children while on vacation, sparking their curiosity for biology and natural sciences in a whole new way.
Are the botanical gardens worth a visit?
A trip to Diamante isn’t complete without a leisurely stroll through the botanical gardens. Here, you’ll be able to see a range of native and non-native trees and plants, such as cas, mango, papaya and coffee. It’s the perfect way to explore flora and fauna in an entirely natural environment.
The shaded pathways throughout the garden lead you to a “Traditional House”, offering a cultural insight into how farming communities lived here over 100 years ago. Specialized guides are available to offer visitors a “hands-on” cultural experience with coffee, sugar cane and chocolates.
What about the zip line pass?
Those who’ve done their research on the area will no doubt have heard about the superman-style zip line pass that’s on site. Families that love action-packed adventures will adore the mile-long journey with ocean views, experiencing the Pacific coast from a whole new perspective. The course is ACCT approved, using state-of-the-art carbon lines and automatic braking systems, and a team of trained guides are on hand to ensure you get the most out of your trip. It’s worth noting that children must weigh at least 27 kilograms (60 lbs) for the short ziplines, or 45 kilograms (85 lbs) to try the superman zipline. The maximum weight limit permitted per person is 130 kilograms (280 lbs).
If you want to take things one step further, try the 30-foot free fall Quick Jump during your visit. What’s more, the course also offers dual lines to allow guests to ride side by side with their loved ones – offering a truly unique experience.
Can younger kids get a slice of the action?
Although there are height and weight restrictions for the zip lines, there are still ways that younger children can get involved. The jungle obstacle course is great for growing adventurers, packed with swings, monkey bars and a rock wall for both kids and adults to enjoy exploring together.
