When spending the day at Prieta Beach Club, our family usually alternates between the beach and the pool throughout the afternoon, whether it enjoying more activity like kayak and snorkeling ventures off the beach to leisurely lounging at the infinity edge pool. One of our favorite poolside orders is the homemade chips and guacamole paired with a mango smoothie. Then we enjoy a poke bowl for lunch.

A small insider tip for families: the smoothie may occasionally include passion fruit depending on availability. If your children prefer a sweeter mango flavor, simply ask for the passion fruit to be omitted when ordering.

One of Our Favorite Peninsula Papagayo Traditions

One of our family’s favorite ways to spend an evening at Peninsula Papagayo is to head down to Prieta Beach just before sunset. The adults usually grab a cocktail while the kids order smoothies, and then everyone takes a walk along the shoreline as the day begins to wind down.

When our children were younger, one of their favorite beach games was organizing hermit crab races. They would draw an inner circle and an outer circle in the sand, then each participant would search for what they believed to be the fastest hermit crab. The crabs would be placed in the middle, and the first one to cross the outer circle was declared the winner. Simple rules, endless entertainment, and plenty of laughter.

These days we still enjoy sunset walks along Prieta Beach, often followed by dinner at Manglar or drinks overlooking the water. It is one of those simple Peninsula Papagayo traditions that reminds us why we love spending time here.

Insider Tip: A Family Favorite Evening Adventure

One of our family’s favorite Peninsula Papagayo traditions begins with dinner at Dive Bar at Marina Papagayo. After watching the boats and yachts return to the marina and looking up the biggest megayacht in sight, we pile into our golf cart with flashlights in hand and slowly make our way back through the resort after dark.

Over the years we’ve spotted a family of peccaries, a large snake crossing the road, field mice, countless night jars, coyotes, and even a fox our kids affectionately nicknamed “Skinny Legs” after multiple nighttime sitings. While wildlife sightings are never guaranteed, a leisurely evening golf cart ride can be a surprisingly memorable way to experience Peninsula Papagayo after sunset.
