Have you ever heard a howler monkey howl? This past weekend, a troupe of howlers was passing through the canopy below our terrace at Vista Hermosa, and they stopped to exchange calls with neighboring howlers. These howls will be a frequent sound during your stay at Peninsula Papagayo, Costa Rica. Sometimes they will be your alarm clock, and sometimes they will test your concentration, particularly in the backswing of the “drive of your life.” While you cannot see the howler monkeys in this video (merely a bit of tree shaking in the trees below the sand trap), you can certainly hear them, as they are not quiet! Enjoy!
In contrast to the howler monkeys, the white-faced monkey will generally be pretty quiet, with chirps, and small noises. They may bare their fangs and screech if you get too close and threaten them. We love the variety of monkeys and their constant presence at the Peninsula. Some days you have to search more than other days to find them, but it is always a treat to watch them eating, crossing through the canopy, and listen to them interacting with each other.
Enjoy and respect the wildlife at Peninsula Papagayo, Costa Rica. Watch them and take their photos, but please do not feed them!
