The Oxford Dictionary defines “yacht” as “a medium-sized sailing boat equipped for cruising or racing.” Wikipedia offers an additional term:
Luxury yacht (also super yacht, large yacht and mega yacht) is a very expensive, privately owned, professionally crewed sailing or motor yacht.
A luxury 180-slip marina, the Papagayo Marina offers superyacht docking capabilities. So, while you can always see a variety of sized yachts docked, you will frequently encounter a superyacht during your stay. Onsite at the marina, you cannot simply walk on the docks to look at the private boats close up, but you can get a great view from the Dive Bar and take a stroll around the perimeter. So grab a fish taco and a mojito and enjoy! If you are lucky, you will see one of the megayachts docked onsite. Here is a glimpse of the superyachts we recently saw from our terrace at Vista Hermosa and then down at the Papagayo Marina:

It is always a nice break to drive down to the marina, grab a cocktail and a bite to eat from their delicious menu at the Dive Bar and Restaurant, and look out to the bay. It is a beautiful 12 minute drive along the ridge of the peninsula down to the marina, so you can look for wildlife and enjoy the views along the way.
