Costa Rica is one of the most popular adventure travel destinations within the Latin American region, boasting over 2 million visitors each year. Situated in the Central Time Zone, it’s famous for its varied topography of breathtaking mountains, rugged volcanoes, mystical mangroves and crystal clear oceans. Planning your next trip to the region? We’ve pulled together a range of options to help make your journey to your luxury vacation villa in Guanacaste that little bit easier.
By air:
For those traveling by air, the Daniel Oduber Quirós International Airport in Liberia, Guanacaste (LIR) is located just 30 minutes away from Peninsula Papagayo. Flying times from many major US cities to Papagayo range from three to five hours. You can fly direct to Liberia from the likes of New York, Newark, Charlotte, Dallas, Chicago, Denver, Minneapolis, Baltimore, Boston, Montréal, Toronto, San Salvador, Edmonton, Calgary, Panama City and London. What’s more, new routes added from Los Angeles International Airport make the area increasingly accessible to West Coast travelers, allowing them to travel to the area more quickly than a trip to Hawaii. Likewise, from Europe you can fly direct from Amsterdam and Zurich. Alternatively, you can travel to San Jose International Airport (SJO) and take a short 40-minute internal flight to Liberia.
By taxi / shuttle bus:
Private shuttle bus and taxi services are available in Guanacaste, taking you from your previous destination in Costa Rica, including the likes of San Jose, Monteverde, Jaco, Manuel Antonio and Arenal, to the Papagayo Peninsula. This ensures that you can travel with your party in complete comfort, including air conditioning. It’s important to reserve this service ahead of your arrival in the area, so we invite you to contact your personal concierge when organizing your trip to avoid disappointment.
By car:
The drive to Guanacaste is filled with dreamy views of pastoral countryside through sabanero country. When traveling from San Jose or the Juan Santamaria International Airport, take the four-hour journey across the InterAmerican Highway (Route 1) to Liberia, continuing to follow the signs to Papagayo. If you’re making an onward journey from Liberia’s Daniel Oduber International Airport, head to the main road and follow the signs for Papagayo. This trip will take about 30 minutes to complete, bringing you ever closer to your Costa Rica luxury resort.
