Villa Belvedere: Expanding Luxury with a New Suite—What Would You Choose?

May 21, 2026 by Jane Moore

Some homes become more valuable over time not because they grow larger, but because they grow wiser.

That’s exactly what has happened at Villa Belvedere at Peninsula Papagayo.

I’ve worked with the owners since they first purchased the home years ago, and what has always stood out to me is that Villa Belvedere has never been treated simply as a vacation rental investment. It has always been a real family home — one that has evolved naturally alongside the family itself.

Over the years, I’ve watched their children grow up, get married, and begin families of their own. As the family expanded across generations, the home evolved with them.

Spaces were refined. Gathering areas became more intentional. Outdoor living expanded. Furnishings became lighter, more contemporary, and more comfortable for modern family travel. The outdoor kitchen was enlarged to better accommodate long evenings together overlooking the Pacific. A new viewing deck was added to take advantage of the extraordinary sunsets and ocean views that make this part of Costa Rica so special.

And most recently, the former media room was transformed into a beautifully integrated sixth suite.

At first glance, these updates may seem subtle.

In reality, they reflect something much larger happening in high-end travel today.

Families Are Traveling Differently

Affluent families are increasingly prioritizing experiences that allow them to spend meaningful time together without sacrificing privacy, comfort, or flexibility.

Grandparents are traveling with grandchildren. Adult siblings are vacationing together with their own families. Milestone birthdays, anniversaries, and reunions are increasingly happening within private villas rather than traditional hotel settings.

But for this kind of travel to work well, the home itself matters enormously.

The best family villas are not simply large. They are thoughtfully designed around how people actually live together during vacation.

Villa Belvedere has gradually become exactly that kind of home.

A Home Refined Through Real Family Use

Some luxury homes are designed primarily to photograph well.

Others quietly become better through years of real use.

Villa Belvedere falls firmly into the second category.

The changes have been practical, thoughtful, and centered around how families naturally gather and move throughout the home.

Children moving between the pool and outdoor lounge spaces.

Long dinners stretching late into the evening.

Teenagers wanting independence while grandparents prefer quieter spaces to relax.

Parents needing both connection and privacy.

Very few homes manage to balance all of those dynamics naturally.

Villa Belvedere does.

Thoughtful Design Matters More Than Bedroom Count

For larger groups, the challenge is rarely the total number of bedrooms.

The real challenge is flexibility.

Many large vacation homes technically sleep a significant number of guests, but one or two bedrooms inevitably feel secondary or improvised. Someone always ends up in “the extra room.”

What has impressed me most over the years is how intentionally the owners have continued refining Villa Belvedere to avoid exactly that feeling.

One of the best examples is the former garden-view queen room. Rather than leaving it as a smaller secondary bedroom, the owners completely reimagined the space for modern family travel. They custom designed and built a twin-over-queen bunk, added a custom closet, and fully renovated the bathroom.

The result is a room that works exceptionally well for children, cousins, siblings, or teenagers sharing space together — while still remaining flexible enough for a couple if needed.

It’s a small detail on paper, but in practice it dramatically improves how families use the home.

The same philosophy guided the addition of the new sixth suite.

Rather than feeling like an overflow room, the suite integrates seamlessly into the villa’s overall flow and design. It provides additional flexibility for grandparents, adult couples, parents with younger children, or guests who simply appreciate more privacy during longer stays.

Importantly, the addition did not compromise what has always made the home special: its open, social atmosphere.

The villa still feels connected, welcoming, and centered around togetherness rather than separation.

Indoor-Outdoor Living at Its Best

One of the things Villa Belvedere has always done exceptionally well is create natural gathering spaces.

The main living area flows effortlessly between the indoor great room, expansive terraces, outdoor dining areas, infinity-edge pool, and panoramic ocean views.

Private chef dinners, sunset cocktails, casual lunches after beach days, and slow evenings outdoors have become a central part of how guests experience the home.

At sunset, it becomes one of those places people naturally gravitate toward — often without planning to. Drinks appear, conversations slow down, and the entire family gathers to watch the Pacific change colors as the sun disappears behind the horizon.

Those moments are difficult to manufacture intentionally.

Why Peninsula Papagayo Continues to Appeal to Families

The setting itself also plays a major role in why families continue returning to Peninsula Papagayo year after year.

Unlike many luxury destinations that have become increasingly crowded or commercialized, Peninsula Papagayo still feels private, secure, and connected to nature.

Located within the gated Peninsula Papagayo resort in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, the villa combines privacy and natural beauty with easy access to beaches, golf, dining, and resort amenities.

Guests staying at Villa Belvedere enjoy access to the private Prieta Beach Club while remaining close to:

  • Four Seasons Resort Costa Rica
  • Andaz Peninsula Papagayo
  • Nekajui, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve
  • The Ocean Course
  • Marina Papagayo
  • Papagayo Park
  • The Outpost adventure experiences
  • Swimmable beaches, hiking trails, and water activities

For families, this creates unusual flexibility.

Some days revolve around beach clubs, golf, fishing, or boating. Other days become intentionally slow — centered entirely around time together at the villa itself.

Increasingly, that balance is what high-end travelers are searching for.

Luxury Today Is Increasingly About Ease

Another reason Villa Belvedere resonates with modern travelers is that today’s luxury is increasingly defined by how effortless an experience feels.

Ocean-view infinity pool at Villa Belvedere in Peninsula PapagayoConcierge-supported stays remove much of the friction that often accompanies larger group travel. Airport transfers, golf carts, private chefs, restaurant reservations, groceries, spa appointments, childcare recommendations, and customized excursions can all be arranged in advance.

That allows families to focus less on logistics and more on actually enjoying time together.

And ultimately, that may be the greatest luxury of all.

A More Thoughtful Kind of Luxury

In many ways, Villa Belvedere’s evolution reflects a broader shift happening throughout luxury travel.

Travelers are becoming less interested in excess for the sake of excess and more interested in homes that feel livable, personal, comfortable, and genuinely designed around experience.

The owners never expanded Villa Belvedere simply to increase occupancy.

They refined it to better accommodate the people they love spending time with most.

That distinction is what gives the home its warmth.

And it is also why so many guests return year after year.

For families planning a luxury vacation in Costa Rica, Villa Belvedere continues to stand out not simply because of its location or amenities, but because it genuinely understands how modern families want to spend time together.
